For the second year in a row, and as part of comON Art, the StreetScape2 project will bring to us an exhibition of Urban Art and Public Art that can be seen in the squares and courtyards of the city of Como, organised by Chiara Canali and Ivan Quaroni in collaboration with Associazione Culturale Art Company. The travelling exhibition reflects on the new ways the urban fabric of our cities can interact with contemporary art by renewing itself through installations of small and large works of art and sculptures in dialogue with the aesthetics of the locations in which they area placed.

A kind of “StreetScape” is taking shape in our Italian cities where new urban landscaping is designed to add new vigour to the historical, artistic, architectural and museum heritage of the city by installing site specific works by established and emerging contemporary artists. The project is conceived of as a Public Art event, with a series of installations involving historic palazzos, courtyards, piazzas and cultural spaces in the city of Como.

The exhibition journey has been thought up in association with Creativity Week, with the putting up of posters, installations and light boxes, statues e sculptures, objects of design, collages, multi-material works and also more traditional marbles and bronzes, while other works involve the use of industrial or what is normally seen as waste materials, showing that art can also be sustainable and sensitive to the environment and the urban landscape itself.

Sleipnir Volta, dedicated to the scientist Alessandro Volta, is accompanied by Huginn I, iron sculpture that hides a webcam inside. Like Huginn, Odin’s raven who returns with the news from the Earth, the eye of the camera takes snapshots of the point of view of the sculpture.
